The club’s association with yellow goes way back to the early ’60s when Palace’s ‘lucky’ away kit was adopted for its home outings.
Story of the season: Palace were riding on three remarkable highs by the time they reached ‘91/92: promotion in ’89, the FA Cup final in ’90, finishing third in ’91 and, of course, claiming the Zenith Data Systems trophy that same year. 1991/92, then, was never going to beat its predecessors.
That said, it was no failure, with the Eagles finishing in a respectable 10th place to secure their berth in the inaugural Premier League.
The finest hour: A 3-2 win over Oldham Athletic: Ian Wright’s final game for Crystal Palace. Appropriately, Wright netted on this occasion and so did strike partner, Mark Bright. A fitting end to a fine time in south London.
